Frequently Asked Questions
Should we be an incorporated association or a company limited by guarantee?
Associations are simpler and suit most local groups. A company limited by guarantee suits larger organisations or those operating across several states. We can explain the differences for your situation.
Do we need to register for GST?
Not-for-profits must register once GST turnover reaches $150,000 a year. Below that, registration is optional, and some concessions are available.
What is DGR status?
Deductible gift recipient status allows donors to claim a tax deduction for gifts. It is separate from charity registration and has its own eligibility rules.
